Work In Progress

As promised, here are some views of what’s been going on at Casa Deluxe. At first it was manageable, but as the boxes kept coming in we had to make quick decisions about storing and donating some large items.  We gave the movers a very large desk to do with as they wished, as well as an ugly chandelier one of them liked.  One half of the loft is my writing cubbyhole, with a drop-leaf desk behind Tech Central, where I’m setting up and networking the three computers and TV.  The other side of the loft is my wife’s more traditional writing area.  The back yard is temporarily full o’ boxes, but I’m taking them to the recycling center one carload at a time.  I also put ads in craigslist and a freecycle site, and people came and took away some of them.  One morning as my wife was getting coffee, she watched as a very young deer grazed around the back and settled into a sunny spot for a nap. I’m trying to live in peace with the other animals, but not all of them are as polite as the birds and deer.  Pretty soon I’m going to have to deal with a gopher who thinks because he was here first, he gets to tear up our back yard.

You have macs! (Pie jumps up and down with glee). Looks like you have a couple of macbooks and a G4 Quicksilver… good stuff.

Casa DeLuxe looks great, even with all those boxes. I think as soon as you’re able, try and get a shot of this Gopher so we can have a look. I like your desk too. It is your desk, that picture at the end, isn’t it?

    • One of the laptops is the 7 year old Compaq I began this blog with. It’s slow and has limited RAM, but I moved on a limited budget so it was the computer I had to live with until our house was sold. It only cost about 100 pounds.

You are correct about the Quicksilver tower. That was my home computer. It returned with the missus. The white MacBook is new, and I love it. Mary bought a new 27″ iMac. It arrives in another day or so. I’ve been a Mac addict since 1987, and have owned five previous models.

We each bought new computers from the house sale profits. (We aren’t total non-materialists.)

    • Oh..yes, it’s my desk, though I’ve switched to a smaller lamp.

  2. Did the deer just curl up out in the open, exposed? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before, and I’m pretty much a country boy.

    • Not only did the deer do exactly that, but I watched her do it again early this morning. This house hasn’t been lived in for a year. Many animals consider it part of their territory.

  3. Don’t kill the gopher! I bet he’s cute, I’d love to see him/her. maybe you can get someone to trap it and set it free after you get a pic of course!

    • I don’t intend to kill it. I’m just not sure what it will require to intimidate it and send the message to live elsewhere. The gopher, like the deer, is camera-shy. Once either one sees me, they take off.

I’m gonna study up on gopher psychology. They are rodents, so probably pretty single-minded unless they get a strong dose of negative reinforcement.

  4. It’s a big job unpacking boxes and finding a place for all one’s belongings when moving into a new place. But, it’s also exciting and rewarding. Looks awesome. Enjoy. Enjoy. Enjoy.

Gorgeous! I’m amazed that you and your wife can both write in the same space. I’m with Lisa, I hope you don’t kill the gopher but can somehow encourage him/her to relocate. I’ve been engaged with my own garden wars with a number of slugs and caterpillars. Good luck.

    • I like to think I’m smarter than a gopher, so I expect to figure out either where one would like living even better or what would make one dislike being here.

I don’t like killing anything, even if they try to do me harm. This is just a territorial dispute after all. I have to communicate that I’m the badass predator whose domain should be avoided.

That’s right. Show that Gopher you’re the Daddy. They do look a bit like squirrels, don’t they?

I’m sure there’s a Gopher in the film ‘Caddyshack’ where I was acquainted with Rodney Dangerfield for the first time. He’s a funny man.

  6. What a nice place, there’s so much light! I would commit a petty crime for that kitchen.
